Calligraphy Fonts

5 free Calligraphy Fonts to download for Windows and Mac. Calligraphic faces follow the logic of a broad nib or a pointed pen: thick strokes where the pen pulls down, hairlines where it lifts. The result is formal, ceremonial and unmistakably crafted.

They suit occasions more than products — invitations, certificates, announcements, anything meant to be kept.

Setting calligraphy so the strokes survive

The hairlines are the problem and the point. Set calligraphic faces large, print them on smooth stock, and avoid reversing them out of dark backgrounds where thin strokes disappear. Never use all capitals. If the design has to be cut in vinyl or embroidered, choose a monoline calligraphic face instead, because the thin strokes of a pointed-pen style will not survive the process.

Calligraphy Fonts: common questions

What is the difference between calligraphy and script fonts?
Calligraphic faces reproduce pen strokes with their characteristic thick and thin contrast; scripts are a broader family that includes brush, monoline and casual styles.
Can I use calligraphy fonts for a logo?
For a wordmark, yes, if you compensate for the hairlines at small sizes — usually by choosing a slightly heavier cut or redrawing the thinnest strokes.
Why do the letters not connect properly?
Most calligraphic fonts carry beginning, middle and ending variants of each letter. Turn on contextual alternates, or swap the glyphs manually from the glyph panel.
